FOOTBALL WAGS: WHO ARE THEY?

The WAGs (wives and girlfriends) of the world's top football players have become nearly as popular as the footballers themselves. Actually, the couple of athlethes and celebrities are not only from football, but also from other kind of sports, such as golf, tennis, and so on. But, the couples of football players get more popular than others.
The term of WAGs itself came into common use during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, although it had been used occasionally before that.
Prominent WAGs of that year included Victoria Beckham, wife of then England captain David Beckham, whom the New Yorker described as "Queen of the Wags" and the Sunday Times as "the original Wag"; Cheryl Cole, née Tweedy, of the group Girls Aloud, who had married Ashley Cole in July 2006 ("Wag weds"); Coleen Rooney, née Mcloughlin, who married Wayne Rooney in June 2008 and who was variously described as a "chavette", by the The Sun a "super WAG" and, by the end of the year, listed by the Times as a "national treasure"; and fitness instructor Carly Zucker, wife of Joe Cole, described by Susie Whally in the Sunday Times as a "new WAG on the block [who] has set the tone for the season's most wanted muscles". Other WAGs that got considerable interest included Melanie Slade, due to her relative youth - she was an A-level student at the time - girlfriend of Theo Walcott, who, at seventeen, was himself the youngest member of the England squad, and former Spanish waitress Elen Rives, the then fiancée of Frank Lampard. Nancy Dell'Olio, an Italian property lawyer who was the girlfriend of the then England coach Sven-Göran Eriksson, enjoyed quite a high public profile of her own, partly as a result of long-running press interest in aspects of Eriksson's private life.

Curran and Gerrard married on 16 June 2007, at the Cliveden House luxury hotel in Buckinghamshire. They have two daughters, Lilly-Ella (born 23 February 2004) and Lexie (born 9 May 2006) and live in Formby, Merseyside.
Alex Curran was born on the 23rd of September 1982 in Aintree, Liverpool and is an English model, fashion columnist for the Daily Mirror and the wife of Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard.

WAG Cheryl Cole is the highest paid footballer's wife. She is married to Chelsea football player Ashley Cole

Peter Crouch takes girlfriend Abigail Clancy to Paris

Because of their popularity, two novels have been published about WAGs. The first, A Wag's Diary, was released in October 2007, published by Harper Collins; the second, A Wag's Diary in LA, was published in June 2008. Both books are written by Alison Kervin.
In an October 2008 press conference, England and Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand heavily criticised the WAGS culture, particularly in Baden-Baden two years previously, calling it a "circus" and giving praise to new England manager Fabio Capello's more disciplined regime, and after England had qualified for the 2010 World Cup by beating Croatia 5-1, Capello made his first public comment on the WAGs by making it clear that the England players will only be able to see their wives and partners the day after a match, stating that "We are there to play, not for a holiday"

How can Eldrick Tiger Woods becomes so great and famous in the world? Yupps, one thing thst so significant is because he has a family who support him since he was a child. They are his parent. His father, Earl Woods was a lieutenant colonel in the Army and a former Green Beret. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Tiger's dad, who saw him through almost every phase of his golf development. His dad used to sit by Tiger's bed at night and give him confidence, telling him how good he was going to be at life and at golf. But his dad never pushed him. The other big influence in his life was his mother, Kultida (Tida) Woods. Her maiden name is Kultida Punsawad. For years she used to get up early in the morning and drive him to tournament sites all around the state of California. She used to keep score and never complain about how much time it all took. Tiger Woods says they were both very important in the development of his golf.
Then.....after Tiger Woods become a great and famouse person in the world, Tiger thinks that being a good role model to others is even more important than his golf. He thinks his golf is just a vehicle for him to influence people. He wants to influence kids in a positive way. Tiger feels that's what it's all about. Tiger and his parents put together The Tiger Woods Foundation (TWF) in order to promote both golf and non-sports activities for disadvantaged children. TIGER WOODS: STIL THE WORLD HIGHEST-PAYED ATHLETE

Even though got knee surgery and he should on shelf for eight month, and also put a severe dent in his prize money, and killed his overseas appearance fees, then one of his main sponsors also walked away a year before their agreement was set to expire, Tiger Woods remains sports’ highest earner with an annual income two and a half times larger than his closest competitor. The world’s top golfer made $110 million during the past 12 months and is the best-paid sportsman for the eighth straight year. Tiger Woods’ knee injury caused his prize money to drop to $5 million from $25 million, but his overall earnings only fell $5 million thanks to an expansion of Woods’ non-playing financial empire.

Here are the top highest payed athlete according to Forbes:

  1. Tiger Woods has earned almost $900 million in prize money, endorsements and appearance fees during his 13-year professional golf career and next year is poised to become the first athlete to earn $1 billion during a career. Woods racked up more than twice the earnings of any other athlete over the past 12 months despite being sidelined for eight months after knee surgery thanks to lucrative endorsement deals with Accenture, Gillette and Nike as well as a thriving golf course design business.
  2. Kobe Bryant has earned almost$45 million. Bryant secured his place among the NBA's all-time greats when he won his fourth NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in June. The Black Mamba's popularity is at its zenith as his No. 24 jersey is the top seller in the U.S., Europe and China. Bryant pads his $21 million Lakers salary through endorsement deals with Nike, Upper Deck, Activision and VitaminWater.
  3. Michael Jordan has earned almost $45 million. MJ retired as a player for the third and presumably final time six years ago, but he is still the most famous athlete in the United States. The Jordan Brand is approaching $1 billion in sales for Nike which turned Jordan into a marketing phenomenon. Jordan is on the short list of potential buyers for the Charlotte Bobcats where he is head of basketball operations and a minority owner.
  4. Kimi Raikonan has earned almost $45 million. Formula One's highest-paid driver finished a disappointing third in the World Championship standings last year after winning the title in 2007. This year has been even worse for the Iceman who sits in 10th place in the current standings. Ferrari resigned Raikkonen in September to a one-year contract extension keeping the Finn behind the wheel for Ferrari through 2010.
  5. David Bekcham has earned almost $42 million. Becks is far from the best player on the pitch, but he is still the most famous which is why companies like Adidas, Giorgio Armani and Motorola pay him millions for his endorsement. Beckham spent five months on loan this year playing for AC Milan before his planned return to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in July when the MLS season is half over.
  6. LeBron James (tie) has earned almost $40 million. The NBA's MVP led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the league's best record and had a playoff performance for the ages this year, but his team was bounced from the playoffs by the Orlando Magic in the Conference Finals. His free agency next summer has teams maneuvering to get under the salary cap in hopes of signing King James. The Cavs can offer the biggest contract under NBA salary rules, but James might go in search of a bigger market.
  7. Phil Mickelson (tie) has earned almost $40 million. Playing second fiddle to Tiger Woods has proven very lucrative for the world's second-ranked player. His most lucrative deal is with Callaway, which signed Mickelson to a five-year extension this year. Other sponsors include Barclay's, Exxon, KPMG and Rolex. Mickelson has won $54 million in prize money during his career, third all-time behind Woods and Vijay Singh.
  8. Others
