John Winston Lennon was born on 9 October 1940 in Liverpool Maternity Hospital, Oxford Street, Liverpool, to Julia and Alfred Lennon. John Lennon, was an English singer-songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles and, with Paul McCartney, formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. As half of the singing/song-writing core of The Beatles, John Lennon stands as one of the most influential figures in 20th Century music. With Sir Paul McCartney, guitarist George Harrison and drummer Ringo Starr, the Beatles changed the face of popular music forever.
The so-called “smart Beatle,” he brought a penetrating intelligence and a stinging wit both to the band’s music and its self-presentation. But in such songs as “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),” “Rain” and “In My Life,” he also marshaled gorgeous melodies to evoke a sophisticated, dreamlike world-weariness well beyond his years. Such work suggested not merely a profound musical and literary sensibility - a genius, in short -- but a vision of life that was simultaneously reflective, utopian and poignantly realistic.
Imagine is a song written and performed by John Lennonin 1971. Imagine was released as a single in the United States where it reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
